Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) was organized on 21-22 December 2024 at Akal Charitable Hospital & Akal College of Nursing (CON), Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. The program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of nursing faculty in life-saving techniques, in accordance with the latest guidelines by the American Heart Association (AHA).
On Day 1, the sessions focused on adult BLS and ACLS training, beginning with a pre-test to assess baseline knowledge, followed by an introduction to CPR guidelines by Ms. Arti Saini. Mr. MahendraKumar conducted a session on team dynamics, emphasizing the importance of effective communication in CPR outcomes. Practical demonstrations and hands-on training on airway management, chest compressions, AED use, and drug administration were conducted at various stations. The day concluded with a debrief and feedback session led by the facilitators, summarizing the key learning points and addressing participants' questions.
Day 2 2 of the FDP was dedicated to paediatric BLS and ACLS training. The day began with an overview of paediatric CPR guidelines, highlighting differences from adult techniques, followed by airway management sessions led by Ms. Arti Saini. Participants engaged in hands-on training for paediatric CPR, including high-quality compressions, AED use, and advanced airway management. A demonstration on managing choking in children provided additional practical insights. The program concluded with a post-test and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to evaluate participant competencies. The feedback session revealed that participants found the training highly effective, with an emphasis on practical skills and real-life application. Special thanks were extended to the facilitators and organizing team for their dedicated efforts in making the FDP a success.
Conclusion
Adult and Paediatric BLS and ACLS was a comprehensive and impactful initiative designed to strengthen the life-saving skills of nursing faculty. The integration of theory with practical hands-on training ensured a robust learning experience, while the use of real-life scenarios enhanced the applicability of the techniques taught. Participants left the program with heightened confidence and competence in performing critical life-saving interventions, in alignment with the latest AHAguidelines. The successful execution of this FDP underscores the commitment of Akal College of Nursing to promoting excellence in healthcare education and practice.
