As part of the Community Health Nursing practicum, 58 students of B.Sc. Nursing 3rd Year from Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, actively participated in the field outreach program titled “Health Care Services at the Doorsteps of Households in Underserved Rural and Remote Villages.” The initiative aimed to extend essential health care to rural households, enhance health awareness, and promote preventive and promotive health practices in hard-to-reach areas.

Activities and Services Rendered

Throughout the month of October 2025, the nursing students visited the villages of Neri Nawan and Bagroti under the supervision of faculty from the Department of Community Health Nursing. The students conducted door-to-door health assessments, provided symptom-based nursing care, and delivered individual and family health education.

The major services rendered included:

● Morbidity Health Care Services for conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Arthritis, Cardiovascular Problems, Respiratory Illnesses, Gastrointestinal Disorders, and Musculoskeletal Conditions.

● Maternal and Child Health Services, including antenatal and postnatal care, assessment of growth and development, and adolescent health education.

● Comprehensive Head-to-Foot Physical Assessments and home-based nursing interventions tailored to presenting symptoms.

● Health Education on topics including personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, nutrition, and lifestyle modification.

● Promotion of Health and Prevention of Illness through behavior change communication and community participation.

Additionally, students visited key environmental health infrastructure facilities such as the Sewage Treatment Plant, Water Purification Plant, Biomedical Waste Management Unit, and Solid Waste Management Unit, to gain practical exposure to community-level environmental health and sanitation systems.

Outcome and Impact

The month-long outreach program provided a valuable platform for students to integrate theoretical knowledge into practical field experience. It strengthened their understanding of primary health care, community-based nursing interventions, and environmental health management. The activity also contributed to the improvement of community health awareness and encouraged households to adopt preventive and promotive health measures.

Conclusion

The outreach initiative successfully achieved its objectives of delivering health care services at the doorsteps of underserved populations and promoting holistic community well-being. The hands-on involvement of nursing students fostered their professional growth and reinforced their commitment to serving humanity through community-centered health care.
