The Department of Child Health Nursing and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing joined hands to transform knowledge into action, compassion into practice, and learning into impact.
November 15–21, 2025 IGMC Shimla & Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Govt. Medical College, Nahan.
This year’s theme, “Newborn Safety: Every Touch, Every Time, Every Baby,” was not just a slogan, it was a responsibility embraced wholeheartedly by students and faculty.
Where Learning Meets Purpose
Awareness, Action, Advocacy.

1. Awareness & Education Sessions
Students stepped into the community and into hospital units as educators, guiding families on:-
Effective breastfeeding practices.
Safe handling and positioning.
Maintaining newborn warmth.
Identifying danger signs early.
What they taught wasn’t just information, it was empowerment.

2. Hands-On Skill Workshops
Future nurses trained with precision and dedication in neonatal resuscitation:-
Neonatal resuscitation.
Kangaroo mother care ( KMC ).
Infection prevention.
Cord care techniques.
Safe newborn handling.
Through simulation-based learning, they didn’t just practice skills, they practiced saving lives.

3. Hospital-Based Counselling
At both medical institutions, students offered counselling and support to new mothers and families in:-
Maternity wards.
Neonatal care units.
Postnatal recovery areas.
Here, learning became healing, Care became connection, and students discovered that nursing is not only a profession, it is a calling.
Every Touch Matters – A Lesson for Life
The week culminated in a powerful reminder that a newborn cannot speak, defend, or protect themselves but nurses can and they do.
Every student who participated walked away with deeper empathy, sharper clinical skills, stronger commitment to maternal and child health, and renewed respect for the sacredness of life.
A Message to All Students
Whether you study nursing or any other discipline your actions have the power to shape lives.
Be mindful, be compassionate, be responsible, and because just like a newborn, every new beginning in life needs a guardian someone who chooses care, safety, and humanity.

Together, Toward a Future Where Every Baby Thrives
The observance of Newborn Care Week 2025 wasn’t just a university event, it was a movement of hearts, knowledge, and commitment.
To all faculty, students, and healthcare teams involved your seva made a difference.
And to every reader carry this spirit forward, let your touch in every field, in every action and be a touch that protects, nurtures, and uplifts.
