World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2025 was observed with great enthusiasm at Akal Charitable Hospital & Akal College of Nursing to raise awareness, promote best practices, and strengthen community engagement on maternal and child health. The program combined creative competitions, academic discussions, and grassroots outreach, ensuring active participation from students, faculty, and the local community.

Day 1 – Inaugural Ceremony

The week commenced with an inaugural ceremony where the Principal welcomed participants and unveiled the theme. A collective pledge was taken to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding, setting a meaningful tone for the week.

Day 2 – Poster Competition

Students creatively expressed breastfeeding benefits, myths vs. facts, and workplace support through posters. The event encouraged peer learning and message dissemination through art.

Day 3 – Reel-Making Competition

Participants showcased digital advocacy by creating reels in educational, dramatic, and testimonial styles. These reels were shared on social media, extending outreach beyond the campus.

Day 4 – Household Education Sessions

Faculty and students visited nearby communities, educating mothers and families through one-on-one sessions. Pamphlets were distributed, misconceptions clarified, and demonstrations on breastfeeding positions and hygiene practices conducted. This grassroots approach strengthened trust and facilitated behavior change.

Day 5 – Awareness Rally & Street Play

A rally with placards, slogans, and brochures engaged the public in local markets and streets. A nukkad natak (street play) conveyed the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, capturing community attention and sparking conversations.

Day 6 – Panel Discussion

Senior students led a panel discussion on breastfeeding support, exploring challenges like stigma, workplace barriers, and gaps between public perception and medical recommendations. The session fostered critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving.

Day 7 – Debate & Closing Ceremony

The final day featured a debate on “Breastfeeding Practices – Tradition vs. Modern Approaches,” where students presented evidence-based arguments. The closing ceremony included an audiovisual recap, prize distribution for winners of competitions, and a reaffirmed pledge to continue breastfeeding advocacy.
